The Board is vested with the authority and responsibility for the formulation and adoption of the policies, strategic plan, and budget governing the administration of the school, and for the appraisal of the effectiveness of such policies and their administration.
Adopt, review, interpret and audit admission, educational, financial business and all other policies in accordance with the purposes and needs of the school.
Determine the needs of the school and of those it serves and give it active support.
Appoint the Superintendent, determine the terms of his or her employment, monitor the discharge of his or her duties, and to employ other personnel on the recommendation of the Superintendent
Provide strategic direction for the school. The day-to-day operation shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent.
Review the annual staffing plan developed by the Superintendent and approve any budgetary changes necessary for the implementation of the staffing plan.
Act as an appraisal body reviewing reports made by the administration and evaluate the effectiveness of the school program overall.
Approve the annual budget prepared by the Superintendent and the Director of Finance and recommended by the Finance Committee.
Approve the expenditure of funds in excess of the approved budget.
Employ any independent auditor and outside legal counsel required to support or advise the Association, who shall report directly to the Board.
Exercise its constitutional authority to assure that the financial means will be available to provide the physical and educational means to carry out the objectives and program of the school.
Perform specific duties imposed on the Board by appropriate authorities.
Establish policies pertaining to the admission priority of students to the school in accordance with Article VII, J of the Constitution.
Act as a body of final review in all cases in which the decision of the Superintendent has been appealed.
Approve courses of study and activities recommended by the Superintendent.
Approve the annual school calendar as presented by the Superintendent.
Review any decision of the Superintendent to expel a student.
Provide orientation for new Trustees, in coordination with the Superintendent.
Deliberate on matters of administration or policy not otherwise covered.
Alter grade levels or services available as necessary due to physical plant, financial constraints, or the interests of the Association.
Contacting, negotiating, and otherwise dealing with all local, federal, or foreign governments and agencies.
